version of the limited edition box which contains a CD plus a CD3 at a hefty price only to later see the Japanese import, which cost more, but included a third CD of portions of Sakamoto's NYC 1988 concert. My version has a bilingual obi saying "playing the orchestra" and nothing else. version had a large sticker on the plastic wrap with the title and "very limited edition" printed on it. He said his obi said Sakamoto plays Sakamoto, which was the name of the concert. (the CD was in a thin case and the obi may have been different). Chuck Wheat tells me he has a presumably international version of the box that is similar to the Virgin America version. The Japanese box looks similar from the outside. The limited edition was a fancy cardboard box with die cut simulated wooden parts, rice paper, tiny rocks, CD3 mounted in the lid. It is still in print as a 2 CD set without the box or CD3 disc. Another of the Sakamoto releases with frusteratingly shifting contents. Those folks who made the cd/concert should have spent more time Rehersing The Orchestra, as the playing is a little sloppy by classical standards. Here you get to hear these pieces played by orchestra, instead of synths.Interesting and different sounding item. The remainder is mostly from Merry Christmas Mr. A number of the tracks are not available on the film soundtrack. Virgin vjd-200/vjd-201/vjd-203 (Japan), SAKCD 1 (International), 2-91002 (USA)Ĭontains live recordings of mostly the Last Emperor with orchestra and RS at the piano. also a special edition box with one 5" CD and one or two 3" CDs. There is an hour long videotape containing the same tour but with a somewhat different set and performances. Generally the arrangements are less "Japanese" and less electronic. Has Steppin Into Asia in an English translation. Lawrence is in a different but nice arrangement. See also my page on Sakamoto best ofs and collaborations. Speaking on the remix at the time, Sakamoto said: “Arca is another artist I’ve been following for years and wanted to ask to remix from the start. Īrca and Sakamoto have worked together previously, with the former remixing the title track of the latter’s 2018 album async. It’s a space she’s explored in the past – be it on her eponymous debut album, released in 2017, or songs such as 2020’s Mallorca. Much like the rest of the new album, it’s a largely instrumental offering that sees Arca venturing into more ambient territory. Sanctuary – Arca’s collaboration with Sakamoto – is a haunting and melancholic song. KiCK iii and kick iiii arrived on two successive days, with Kick iiiii the final piece in the Kick album series puzzle. On Tuesday (30 November), she released KICK ii, which included a link-up with Australian singer Sia. The new record, entitled kiCK iiiii, dropped today (3 December) at the tail-end of Arca’s mammoth album release week. It’s the final instalment in the former Crack Magazine cover star’s Kick album series.Īrca has released another new album, and it features a collaboration with famed Japanese composer Ryuichi Sakamoto.
